The National Assembly Speaker’s office on Thursday initiated action under Article 63-A regarding references sent against three members by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q), which might lead to the termination of their assembly membership.
The media reports while quoting the sources in the Speaker’s Office said that PML-N President Nawaz Sharif and PML-Q leader Chaudhry Shujaat sent references to the Speaker’s Office to take action against their respective members. The Speaker forwarded the matter to the Election Commission, recommending the disqualification of both members.
The references were sent by the presidents of both parties against members Adil Bazai, Muhammad Alam Dad, and Ilyas Muhammad Chaudhry.
The reference against Adil Khan Bazai was filed by the PML-N, while the reference against Ilyas Muhammad Chaudhry was submitted by the PML-Q, stating that the members violated party directives during the budget session.
Adil Khan Bazai was elected as a member of the National Assembly from constituency 262 (Quetta -1), while Ilyas Muhammad Chaudhry was elected from constituency 62 (Gujrat).
Under current laws, all members are required to follow party guidelines, and the references request immediate action against the members.
On the other hand, the media reports said that three members were absent last time on the day of the constitutional amendment, contradicting party policy.
The three assembly members did not attend the National Assembly sessions on the last three days, with Adil Khan Bazai and Muhammad Ilyas Chaudhry absent alongside Muhammad Alam Dad from NA-161. A decision was made to take action due to their absence, contrary to party instructions.
