National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq has urged for decisive action in response to the events that occurred in parliament last night, which saw the arrest of many PTI legislators from reportedly within and outside the Parliament House.
Sadiq stated at a session of the assembly on Tuesday: “Action will have to be done over what took place in parliament yesterday.”
He also stated that he had ordered the collection of CCTV video from all entrance points to Parliament House, including gates one to five, the cabinet side gate, as well as within the building.
To his dismay, Sadiq said he feels “unlucky” since he has been in parliament when major disruptions have occurred. He brought up the purported attack on Parliament House in 2014, when a party was helped by its “cousin”.
He recalled that he had himself filed a FIR against the concerned party at the time, and he declared that he would do so if needed.
The speaker called Syed Naveed Qamar, Azam Nazeer Tarar, and Ali Muhammad Khan to his chamber. In order to handle the situation, he advised them to have a conversation, emphasizing how crucial it is to resolve issues of this nature through discourse.
Furthermore, PTI MNA Ali Muhammad Khan gave the speaker access to all of the material from yesterday night. The consultation also includes Abdul Aleem Khan, the president of the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party along with Noor Alam Khan of JUI-F, Aminul Haq of the MQM, Rana Sanaullah, Shandana Gulzar, and Sahibzada Hamid Raza.
The speaker also called the DIG and SSP to Parliament House, as well as the chief of police in Islamabad.
According to sources, the speaker has directed police officers to present the specifics of any cases they may have against assembly members.
