The Public Accounts Committee PAC has directed an inquiry into multiple irregularities involving Nishtar Medical University and hospital in Multan.
The committee, chaired by Malik Ahmed Khan Bacher, raised concerns over violations in financial practices, including tenders and local purchases amounting to Rs.219.9 millions.
During the Punjab assembly’s PAC-I meeting, the chairman expressed displeasure over the lack of compliance with the directive to recover electricity bill payment from the hospital’s canteen.
The PAC has ordered a thorough investigation into the delayed recovery and demanded a detailed report.
A special audit of Nishtar Medical University was ordered to uncover alleged financial mismanagement, particularly in the hospital’s canteen and residential colonies.
The PAC had previously directed the recovery of over Rs.20 million in unpaid electricity bills from the hospital’s canteen.
Non-compliance with this directive led to further scrutiny. Irregularities in tenders and local purchases amounting to 219.9 million were highlighted.
Surgical equipment and medicines worth over 170,000,000 were also flagged for investigation.
The committee instructed the recovery of dues based on MEPCO Multan electric power company rates.
In addition, the PAC expressed disappointment over the lack of progress on inquiries initiated on 3 December and emphasized the need for strict accountability.
