Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif assigns Ishaq Dar, Ahsan Iqbal, Ayaz Sadiq, Rana Sanaullah and Saad Rafique task of consulting on MQM’s demands
Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Pakistan has conditioned its support for the constitutional amendment on the revision of Article A-140 of the Constitution to empower local government institutions.
According to an MQM spokesperson, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with an MQM delegation in Islamabad, where the party set its condition for supporting the constitutional amendment and demanded the empowerment of local government institutions.
Sources reported that MQM Chairman Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori, Aminul Haq, and Farooq Sattar attended the meeting with the Prime Minister. The government delegation included Ishaq Dar, Ahsan Iqbal, Khawaja Saad Rafique, and Rana Sanaullah.
The MQM delegation requested powers for local government institutions across the country in support of the constitutional amendment and presented a draft for amending Article A-140 to the Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister assigned Ishaq Dar, Ahsan Iqbal, Ayaz Sadiq, Rana Sanaullah and Saad Rafique the task of consulting on MQM’s demands.
According to MQM sources, a high-level delegation from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), led by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, will visit MQM’s Bahadurabad center to discuss the draft concerning local governments.
The PML-N delegation is expected to brief MQM leadership on the current draft of the constitutional amendment today.
Sources said that the PML-N delegation is likely to arrive at MQM’s Bahadurabad center by 2pm, where detailed discussions will take place between the leaders of both parties.
