The motorbike dispute between Sindh and Punjab has escalated further, with Sindh strongly objecting to the increase in National Highway Taxes.
Pakistan People’s Party PPP senator Muhammad Asslam Abru has expressed concerns about reclassifying the national highway as a motorway and subsequently raising toll taxes.
The dispute has drawn strong reactions from the chief minister of Sindh, members of the National Assembly, and PPP senators, all of whom have voiced serious reservations about the matter.
Senator Muhammad criticized the decision, calling the toll text increase unfair for Sindh. He stated that the people of Jacobabad would soon stage a protest to record their opposition.
He further remarked that billions of rupees are being generated under the name of motorway toll tax, yet to province that contributes the highest tax revenue remains deprived of basic facilities.
Senator said, “A vast network of motorways has been laid across Punjab, making it seem as if only Punjab represents Pakistan. This is a great injustice to Sindh and Balochistan”.
The PPP senator also alleged that toll tax is being used as a means of large-scale financial exploitation.
He revealed that, during a discussion on this issue, former minister Parvez Rashid suggested incorporating it into the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor CPEC project.
Expressing concern over the poor condition of roads in Sindh, Muhammad Aslam pointed out that the highways from Kashmir Sehwan, and Hyderabad are still in a deteriorated state.
He urged the authorities to address these issues immediately and ensure fair treatment for all provinces.
