Authorities are on alert to stop the spread of monkeypox virus in Pakistan, calling a meeting at Karachi airport.
Reports say the Pakistan Airport Authorities have summoned all the stakeholders at Jinnah International Airport on Monday.
The airport in-charge will preside over the tomorrow’s meeting at Jinnah International Airport. The participants will receive a briefing on the screening of people arriving in Pakistan from different locations. They will monitor all the entry points at the airport. The officials say they are also chalking out comprehensive plan to enhancing monitoring of passengers at all airports.
In case of any suspicion, the passenger would be separated and shifted to medical emergency. The staff at airports will disinfect every passenger at the airports.
The staff will also launch an awareness campaign which include announcements and distribution of pamphlets.
Prime Minister Meeting
Though the health authorities have already informed the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif that there is no evidence of local transmission of mpox, the government is taking all possible measures for protection of people, officials say.
In this regard, they are meeting to address the potential risks and chalk out comprehensive plan.
The prime minister has also directed the Border Health Services to maintain proper surveillance.
The prime minister has directed the National Command and Operations Centre (NCOC) to remain active. He also ordered issuance of all necessary medical equipment to the staff at front lines.
PM coordinator in NCOC, secretary national health, National Disaster Management chairman and other officials attended the meeting.
The statement issued by the PM office says the prime minister emphasised the importance of strengthening coordination among the provincial governments to curb the threat. He said the governments of Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir should also work closely with the centre.
Commonly known as Congo Virus or Mpox is spreading in many countries as the World Health Organisation (WHO) has already declared it as the public health emergency in all over the world.
