Caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi will take over the charge of the PCB management committee chairman after February 8.
Pakistan Cricket Board election commissioner Shah Khawar assumed the responsibility of the acting head of the Pakistan Cricket Board. He would also conduct the PCB election in one month as Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar on Wednesday accepted the resignation of Zakar Ashraf who had resigned as the PCB chairman a couple of days ago.
A leader of the Pakistan People’s Party and close friend of Asif Zardari, the former president and PPP co-chairman, was given the key responsibility in the tenure of the former government of the PPP and PML-N-led alliance in January 2023. Naqvi’s appointment is the fourth replacement in a row in past two years. He would continue his role as caretaker chief minister till the general elections in the country which are scheduled to be held on February 8.
Ashraf resigned following criticism of the performance of the Pakistan cricket team poor performance in the Cricket World Cup 2023. The tenure of the PCB chairman is three-year which could be extendable for another same period.
