Prime Minister Narendra Modi led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is leading on 281 seats in Lok Sabha elections, according to initial poll results.
However, Congress head Rahul Gandhi led INDIA, the opposition alliance, is also gaining more seats as against the poll surveys and gains majority on 200 seats, according to 15 per cent vote count so far. Over 272 seats in the lower parliament are required to make the government in India.
The poll results showed that Modi is also leading at Varanasi , the holy city in Hindu religion, seat. The NDA is much behind the numbers predicted in poll surveys as the BJP was claiming it would cross 400 number this time. The trend of the results, however, showed that Modi is set to become the prime minister of India third time. The seven phase elections in world’s largest democracy concluded four days ago and the official results are being announced today (June 4). It was the most difficult polls in India’s history as many died due to sizzling heatwave during the voting process.
Modi and his party used anti-Muslim and anti-Pakistan rhetoric during the voting campaign and many observers believe it was the reason behind the expected victory of Hindu nationalist party. But this time the rhetoric could not go successful as was expected.
