The Federal Ministry of Health has ordered the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) to end the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT).
The decision was in response to the widespread complaints regarding irregularities in the MDCAT examination.
Following the discussion within the Senate Standing Committee on Health, Dr. Malik Mukhtar, the Prime Minister’s Coordinator suggested implementing an IT-based solution to address this issue.
The Senate Standing Committee expressed deep concerns about the integrity of the MDCAT process.
Dr.Malik emphasized the need for a more reliable testing system, for instance, the American SAT or the Cambridge assessment framework should start next year.
Aamir Chishti, Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Health, backed the move to replace this examination with a modern online system to ensure fair medical admissions.
Dr. Mukhtar informed the committee that the Intelligence Bureau found no evidence of a paper leak this year, suggesting that the problems with MDCAT were mainly due to systemic flaws rather than fraud.
