The caretaker government has accused former Prime Minister Imran Khan of playing an active role in orchestrating the May 9, 2023, attacks on military installations, according to a report presented to the previous cabinet under Shehbaz Sharif.
The report, which examined the widespread violence following Khan’s arrest, alleged that he, along with several other PTI leaders, had significantly contributed to the planning of the riots.
It identified 34 individuals as masterminds, 52 as planners, and 185 as executors of the violent strategy.
The findings suggested a deliberate effort to target key locations, including military installations, based on a “carefully crafted strategy.”
Call log records reportedly revealed coordination between PTI leaders and rioters, with instructions allegedly issued to attack specific sites, such as the Lahore Corps Commander’s residence.
Despite these claims, the military authorities have yet to publicly name the primary masterminds or planners of the violence.
While the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) recently announced the convictions of 25 individuals in military courts, it emphasized that complete justice would be served only when all those responsible, including the masterminds, are held accountable under the Constitution.
Imran Khan has dismissed the allegations, labeling the May 9 events a “false flag operation” and calling for the establishment of a judicial commission to investigate the incidents.
The controversy surrounding the attacks remains a contentious political and legal issue in Pakistan.
