Masoud Pezeshkian officially took oath as Iran’s ninth president in a ceremonial event held at the Iranian Parliament today.
The inauguration saw a high-profile attendance, including representatives from 88 nations and coverage by around 600 journalists, highlighting the significance of the occasion.
During the ceremony, Pezeshkian took an oath before the Holy Quran, promising to uphold the principles of Islam, the Constitution of the Islamic Republic, and the nation’s legal framework.
“In the presence of the Holy Quran and before the Iranian people, I vow to Almighty God to protect the official religion, the Islamic Republic system, and the Constitution,” Pezeshkian affirmed.
He also pledged to use his skills and dedication to serve the public, advance religious and ethical values, support justice, and promote righteousness throughout his tenure.
Judiciary Chief Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei led the oath-taking ceremony. Pezeshkian’s presidency officially commenced following a confirmation from Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, following his win in the runoff election held on July 5.
Pezeshkian succeeds the late President Ebrahim Raisi, who passed away in a helicopter crash in May, leading to an early presidential election. The ceremony, which was attended by top Iranian officials, military leaders, and lawmakers, marked a significant moment in the country’s political landscape.
In line with Article 121 of the Iranian Constitution, Pezeshkian’s oath was administered in the Parliament, with legislators and Constitutional Council members present. The new president is expected to submit his final cabinet nominations to Parliament for approval within the next two weeks.
