Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) vice-president Maryam Nawaz Sharif is all set to be the country’s first female chief minister.
The daughter of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has pledged to live up to people’s expectations. As the CM of Punjab, she aims to fulfil her duties at her best.
Maryam, 50, was nominated as the party’s candidate, followed by her win in both the national and provincial assembly seats — PP-159 and NA-119 respectively.
Addressing a meeting in Lahore on Wednesday, she said: “Your trust and support are my real assets.”
“I want to dedicate the honour of becoming the first female Chief Minister to every mother, daughter, and sister of the country,” Maryam declared, while underscoring her steadfast commitment to meeting the expectations of the people of Punjab.
“Allah gave me the honour of being the first woman chief minister of Pakistan, generally, and Punjab specifically,” asserted Maryam.
Outlining her comprehensive plans for governance, Maryam emphasized that the PML-N has devised a meticulous roadmap, prioritizing every sector equally at both the government and party levels. She sees the Members of the Provincial Assembly (MPAs) as her support system, considering each of Punjab’s 297 constituencies as districts under her direct jurisdiction.
As Maryam prepares to assume the role of Chief Minister, she acknowledges the experience and leadership of her father, Nawaz Sharif, and her uncle, Shehbaz Sharif, former Prime Minister and ex-Punjab Chief Minister, respectively. Their guidance, she believes, will be instrumental in navigating the complex affairs of the province.
The nation eagerly anticipates the transformative impact of Maryam Nawaz’s historic appointment, not only on the political landscape of Punjab but also as a significant milestone in advancing women’s leadership in Pakistan.
Furthermore, having control of Punjab, the province with half of the population of Pakistan will significantly boost the power of PMLN against the opposition.
