Punjab chief minister Maryam Nawaz handshake with a foreign dignitary has created a social media controversy.
People are mentioning eastern and Islamic traditions on her handshake picture with Dubai President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
Reports say Sheik Zayed along with high-ranking Arab officials are on haunting trip in Pakistan. Prime minister Shehbaz Sharif and her niece Maryam welcomed the foreign guests at Rahim Yar Khan airport.
Sheikh Zayad International Airport in RYK is named after Zayed bin Sultan al Nahyan, the founder of the UAE. The late Arab ruler had funded the airport in desert city. He also built road to his palace in RYK, the district headquarters in southern Punjab.

In Pakistan, a traditional eastern and Islamic society, women handshake with men is considered objectionable. After becoming the first woman prime minister of an Islamic country, late Benazir Bhutto often refused to handshake with men.
Considering the traditional practices in Pakistani society, people are making comments on the warmth and the action of the first woman chief minister of Punjab.
Na-Mahram
They are quoting Maryam’s past comments where she widely used Islamic reference of Na-mahram (stranger) while appearing in NAB in some alleged corruption cases during the tenure of the PTI.
Sohrab Barkat, a journalist, commented that women avoid handshake with men in eastern society. However, if it is necessary under diplomatic norms then simple “touch and go” is enough. Famous website Siasat.pk shared his comment on Facebook since the portal is banned in Pakistan.
