A 38-year-old man was viciously attacked to death by an eight-year-old male Asiatic lion at a Zoo in Andhra Pradesh, India on Thursday after jumping into its enclosure to take a photo with the big cat.
Prahlad Gujjar, who is from the Alwar district of Rajasthan, arrived at the zoo around 4 p.m. and went into the restricted area. He was mauled to death by the lion.
Curator C Selvam of Tirupati Zoo told the reporters, “Gujjar scaled the six-foot-high fence and jumped into the lions’ enclosure, despite our animal keeper noticing and cautioning him from entering the restricted area.”
Selvam added that despite their best efforts, the zoo personnel was unable to save him.
He only had neck injuries where the animal bit him, according to the official, and his body was recovered undamaged. The lion was imprisoned in the nighthouse after the attack.
The corpse was transported for a post-mortem after the police launched a case of the incident.
