Malala Yousafzai, a Pakistani Nobel laureate, expressed her support for the Palestinian people on Thursday, following criticism from online users worldwide over her association with former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
“I want there to be no confusion about my support for the people of Gaza […] I have and will continue to condemn the Israeli government for its violations of international law and war crimes,” Malala posted on social media.
The women’s rights activist did, however, decide to disable comments on the aforementioned post on her social media pages.
The Nobel laureate’s comments follow harsh criticism on social media from a large number of users who pointed out that she co-produced the Broadway musical “Suffs” with Hillary, a political heavyweight and former Democratic presidential candidate who has repeatedly rejected calls for a ceasefire in Gaza despite the fact that over 34,000 Palestinians have been killed so far.
Malala expressed her resolve to keep advocating for humanitarian relief and a ceasefire in Gaza while bemoaning the “relentless atrocities against the Palestinian people”.
The Nobel laureate denounced the reported reports of mass graves at the Nasser and Al-Shifa hospitals in Gaza, saying she “stood in solidarity with the people in Gaza whose voices and demands must be heard”.
