Mari Petroleum Company Limited (MPCL) on Friday reported a significant gas find at the Maiwand X-1 ST-1 well, located in Block 28 of the Kohlu District in Balochistan. This is a historic breakthrough for Pakistan’s energy industry.
The exploratory well was spudded on June 12, 2023, and by November 12, 2023, it had achieved an ultimate depth of 2,516 metres, as notified to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX).
The well’s testing has shown encouraging findings, including gas flow rates from different formations.
Following post-completion rates, the Dughan & RaniKot formation demonstrated a gas flow of 4.14 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) at a wellhead flowing pressure (WHFP) of 186 psi with a 64/64″ choke size.
Following the acid wash and acid stimulation procedures, gas flows of 0.79 MMSCFD, 1.11 MMSCFD, and 0.38 MMSCFD were observed in other formations, such as Pab & Mughal Kot and Mughal Kot Sst and Lst.
MPCL, which operates Block 28 with a 95% working interest, has been in the forefront of the region’s exploration efforts, with Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) holding the remaining 5%.
