Renowned veteran Pakistani actress Mahira Khan received a Lifetime Achievement Award by the UK Parliament, for her contributions to women’s empowerment and her services as a cultural ambassador.
This award ceremony was held at the House of Commons where British parliamentarians and high-profile guests attended the event.
MP Afzal Khan hosted this event. Influential personalities including Pakistani High Commissioner Dr. Sarah Naeem, Minister for Trade and Investment Shafiq Shahzad, Chairman of the Labour Asians Society Atta Haq, Manish Tiwari, co-chair of the Labour Asians Society and others attended the event.
During the event prominent figures praised Mahira Khan’s work. Responding this appreciation Mahira said that she is greatly thankful to the honorable guests who considered her for this award.
In her speech, Mahira said that her struggle to empower women has shaped her career. She expressed that the award represents her dedication to creating opportunities for women in the entertainment industry, helping them to break down barriers she once faced.
In an emotional moment on stage Mahira shared her journey. She revealed that she was the first woman in her family to travel abroad all alone. ” I studied at Santa Monica College and later at the University of Southern California (USC). This exposure made me able to be independent”, she disclosed.
Ending the speech Mahira Khan thanked her family, her parents, brother, and son for their unwavering support throughout this journey.
After the event Mahira spoke to media. She noted that this recognition is a great honor for her but also mentioned that many other Pakistani artists deserve similar appreciation for their contributions.
