Mahathir Mohamad, the 99-year-old former prime minister of Malaysia, was released from the hospital on Monday, according to his assistant.
He had been treated earlier this month owing to coughing caused by a lower respiratory infection.
The former prime leader for almost 20 years, Mahathir, has a history of cardiac issues and has spent a number of recent hospital stays.
Mahathir was unable to attend a court hearing on a defamation action he had brought against the nation’s deputy prime minister because he was admitted to the National Heart Institute on October 15.
According to his assistant, Mahathir would be present at the court sessions on Tuesday.
In 2022, Mahathir suffered his first political setback in almost fifty years when he lost his parliamentary seat in the island resort of Langkawi.
He has remained involved in the politics of the Southeast Asian country since leaving parliament, becoming a well-known opponent of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, his erstwhile protege who is now his adversary.
