ISLAMABAD: Earthquake of magnitude 6.0 jolted parts of Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Kashmir, including the federal capital, on Thursday. However, no serious loss of life or property reported, the authorities said.
People in different cities of the country felt the tremors, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Swat, Lower Dir, Upper Dir, Islamabad, Lahore, Swabi, Kohat, Abbottabad, Sargodha, Batgram, Khyber, Landi Kotal, Barra, Chitral and other parts of Punjab and Khyber-Pathunkhwas.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said the earthquake struck at around 2:20pm in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan at a depth of 213km.
The authorities said that rescue services assessed the situation thoroughly, adding that with the grace Allah, no of loss of life or property reported nowhere so far.
In November, an earthquake of 3.3 magnitude on the Richter scale jolted Gilgit and its adjoining areas.
Earlier to this, severe earthquake tremors were felt across and in Quetta a few days ago.
Similarly, on December 18, a 5.8 magnitude earthquake shook Islamabad.
The National Seismic Monitoring Centre (NSMC) in Islamabad confirmed that the epicentre was in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) at a depth of 133 kilometres.
