Lunar Eclipse 2025: First total lunar eclipse of the year will take place on March 14, Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) announced.
According to PMD, the eclipse will begin at 8:57 am Pakistan Standard Time (PST). The lunar eclipse will be on peak at 11:26 am. The eclipse will reach its maximum at 11:59 am before gradually coming to an end at 3:00 pm., according to PMD.
As per PMD report, the lunar eclipse, however, will not be visible in Pakistan. While people in many other regions will get the chance to witness the mesmerizing moment.
The total lunar eclipse will be visible in Europe, several Asian countries, Australia, Africa and both North and South America.
Lunar Eclipse 2025 is significant because it coincides with the year’s third full moon, commonly known as the ‘Worm Moon.’ Many full moons have traditional names linked to nature and seasonal changes.
The Worm Moon, seen in March, symbolizes the arrival of spring. It is named after earthworms that start appearing as the soil warms up after winter, bringing new life to the land.
Another fascinating aspect of this lunar eclipse is the moon’s amazing color transformation. During a total lunar eclipse, the moon can take on a reddish hue.
The reason is that, earth blocks the sunlight, causing the atmosphere to scatter blue light while allowing red light to reach the moon. Due to this eerie red glow, such eclipses are often referred to as ‘blood moons.’
As the blood moon is to occur on March 14, Skywatchers across different parts of the world are eagerly waiting for this mesmerizing event.
PMD stated that if weather conditions are favorable, people will witness a rare and spectacular display in the night sky.
