The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has issued a show-cause notice to the contractor and initiated an investigation into Ferozepur Road bikers’ lane paint fading issue.
The LDA has established a fact-finding committee to look into the paint fading concerns on the bikers’ lane along Ferozepur Road.
The contractor in charge of the project has also received a show-cause notice. Senior representatives from the Environment Protection Agency (EPA), the National Engineering Services Pakistan (Nespak), and the Traffic Engineering and Transport Planning Agency (Tepa) make up the inquiry team. According to media reports, the group is anticipated to present its findings to the LDA administration shortly.
The group was established by LDA Director General Tahir Farooq to evaluate the paint’s technical problems. On Friday, representatives from Tepa, Nespak, and LDA came to assess the site. According to an LDA spokeswoman, the cyclists’ lane is helping about 65,000 individuals and has also resulted in fewer traffic incidents on Ferozepur Road.
The representative clarified that a locally produced paint was utilized for the pilot project, refuting reports that millions of dollars were spent on paint. The contractor is in charge of any necessary repairs during the one-year maintenance guarantee that comes with this paint. He further underlined that the contractor has not been paid for the paint yet.
In order to keep the project within budget, local paint was used at a cost of Rs153 per square foot, but imported paint would have cost Rs1,270 per square foot, an eight to ten times higher price. In order to improve the quality of the paint, the committee is collaborating with the manufacturer, the spokeswoman added. On a portion of the biker lane, an upgraded paint recipe has already been tried, and its longevity is being tracked.
LDA DG Tahir Farooq reaffirmed that the authority is keeping a careful eye on the project’s development as a pilot.
