The All Pakistan Lawyers Representatives on Thursday unanimously resolved to urge that the government use advertising to publicize the proposed constitutional revision.
The group of attorneys stated that they met with Azam Nazeer Tarar, the law minister, and that during the discussion, the minister provided thorough responses to the queries raised by the group’s members.
Hundreds of lawyers from all across the nation attended the meeting held by the All Pakistan Lawyers Representatives at the Supreme Court Bar Complex in Islamabad, where the resolution was accepted.
The legislature possesses the authority to enact laws and modify the constitution.
The resolution said that the constitutional package would be useless without taking the attorneys into confidence and that legislation or constitutional revisions should not, however, clash with the fundamental framework of the document.
The coalition administration is finding it difficult to get the proposed constitutional amendments passed by the parliament because they do not have the necessary two-thirds majority.
The planned modifications purportedly included raising the retirement age of judges and prolonging the term of Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa.
In addition, the attorneys requested that the constitutional petition on Article 63-A filed by the Supreme Court Bar Association be fixed for hearing.
They said that the offenders ought to desist from their heinous actions that jeopardize democracy and the Constitution.
The attorneys requested that the government finalize the 26th constitutional amendment only after conferring with the unions representing lawyers.
The current government’s proposed constitutional reform bill has sparked a tug-of-war between the opposition and Treasury benches in both chambers of parliament.
Any constitutional amendment must be approved by the legislature with a two-thirds majority held by the government.
