Veteran actress Laila Wasti criticized the pairing of artists with prominent age gap in Pakistani drama industry.
Laila Wasti is a renowned actress of Pakistani entertainment industry. She has been a part of various hit projects including Hum Kahan Ke Sachay Thay and Khaie. The actress is loved for her strong performance in motherly characters.
Recently, Laila Wasti appeared in an interview of a local TV channel. During the interview she shared her views on playing age-appropriate roles in Pakistani dramas.
Laila said that directors often cast actors as husband and wife who don’t suit the characters.
“Sometimes directors cast younger actors in roles that don’t align with their actual age”, she expressed.
Laila further said that casting process for dramas must be more sensible that resonates with audiences.
However, Laila praised age-appropriate casting, mentioning her recent collaboration with talented actor Faysal Quraishi in drama serial ‘Khai’.
“It was a pairing that made sense and was appreciated by the audience,” she said.
Laila added that she feels uncomfortable playing the role of wife of actors who are much older than her. However, Laila confessed that to portray the character of a mother to older characters is preferable for her only if it is significant.
