Lahore’s School Education Department is set to introduce a new WhatsApp-based learning initiative for educators and parents in public schools.
This program, developed in partnership with UNICEF, will kick off in an initial cohort of 10 Lahore schools.
Each participating school will select 10 parents and 5 teachers to undergo a 4-week training course.
The goal of this training is to enhance the quality of education in these schools.
The Education Authority has asked schools to compile and submit lists of interested teachers and parents.
This initiative follows Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s approval of a broader plan to overhaul public schools throughout the province.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced an ambitious target to build and refurbish 1,000 school playgrounds within six months.
She also instructed the implementation of regular competitions in schools and called for a detailed assessment to identify the needs and facilities of schools across Punjab.
Additionally, she proposed a plan to formalize the positions of 14,000 Assistant Education Officers (AEOs) and Secondary School Educators (SSEs) in the province.
The chief minister further approved the Green School Programme, which will involve each student planting at least one sapling, with the planting progress tracked digitally.
Earlier, Her government announced a five-year education reform plan and started providing 32,298 computer tablets to the heads of primary schools.
Setting up STEM, IT, and science labs in 1,000 elementary schools with the aid of the Asian Development Bank are the initiatives taken in the education sector. She introduced the Google Certification for 300,000 children in government schools.
The students will be provided opportunities to avail Google Certification under the Digital Journey under the TECH Valley Project.
Delivery of free books to government school students, Nawaz Sharif Children’s Library Complex in Lahore to start elementary education and preschool learning are also her government’s steps.
The CM launched a ‘free milk’ program for children studying in government schools from pre-school to Grade V under a Rs. 27 bn project. She approved converting school grounds into community sports grounds, to help communities use them in the evenings.
