Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan said that the Lahore rally would be a “do or die” situation.
Imran Khan warned that if the rally is stopped, the jails would be launched. He also commented on the Afghan issue, saying that the future of the country is at stake, yet they are fixated on the Afghan consular issue.
While speaking informally to journalists in Adiala Jail, the PTI founder said there should be a thorough debate on the matter of the constitutional court.
“The Supreme Court is the last institution from which people have expectations. If we destroy the Supreme Court, Pakistan will turn into a banana republic.”
A journalist asked, “You signed the Charter of Democracy, which also included the establishment of constitutional courts. What is your stance on that now?”
In response, Imran Khan said, “Everything has a context. There is a difference between then and now. At that time, the constitutional amendment’s sole purpose was to save Qazi Faez Isa. This should not happen in the darkness of night. What they are planning is against the constitution.”
He further added, “They will remove Qazi Faez Isa from this court and place him in the constitutional court. I’ve rarely seen such foolish and dim-witted people making decisions. They are scared and then say he receives news via mobile. I already knew about their moves because of their actions. I knew this amendment was coming. Whatever was to be done should have been done after full consultation, not in secrecy, which reveals their true intentions,”.
The PTI founder stated, “They are about to destroy the Supreme Court. The Lahore rally is a do-or-die moment. They can do whatever they want now. We have directed the entire party to come out. I have been in jail for 15 months and am prepared to stay longer. The public should not fear going to jail either. If they try to stop the rally, we will fill the jails.”
He commented, “On one side, there are those who speak about respecting the vote but are actually giving respect to boots (military rule).
Democracy does not function through force or enslavement.
The Rawalpindi Commissioner was absolutely right when he said that Qazi Faiz Isa and the Chief Election Commissioner are working together.
They want to extend the terms of the umpires so they don’t get exposed.”
When asked about the Afghan consular not standing for the national anthem, the PTI founder replied, “Forget about that. There are much bigger issues facing the country, and you’re stuck on this. The country’s future is at stake, and you’re talking about this,”.
When questioned about Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s outright rejection of the government’s constitutional amendment, the PTI founder said, “I know what you’re trying to get me to say. You’re trying to trap me for a headline. I’ve been in politics for 28 years. I understand these tricks. You’re trying to spin my entire conversation into a headline.”
