Lahore’s air quality index (AQI) has reached hazardous pollution levels. The air quality index in Lahore ranged between 204 and 229 across various areas as of 9:45 am today.
As reported by the Secretariat of the Environment Protection Department, the polluted wind is entering Lahore from the northwest and exacerbating the poor air quality. The air is traveling at the speed of 6 kilometers per hour or kmh.
Punjab health authorities have issued an advisory notice urging the citizens to use face masks to protect themselves from the hazardous smog.
The Punjab Environment Protection Department will continue to oversee the situation. The Punjab government is stressing of the importance of the safety of the people amid worsening air quality in the region.
Additionally, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has expressed concerns and a desire to work with India to tackle the smog condition in the region. Lahore High Court also issued a formal order to close schools and educational institutes for a few days. The marriage halls and shops will also be closed after 10 pm.
