The province’s educational system is expected to suffer as a result of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government’s financial difficulties, as sources informed local media on Saturday. The authorities are said to have chosen to sell departmental land in order to make ends meet.
The property purchased for the Bacha Khan Greater Educational Complex in Mardan, according to the reports, will be placed up for sale to satisfy landowner obligations.
The educational complex was supposed to accommodate four distinct institutions, and 700 of the 4,800 kanals set aside for it would be auctioned off to raise Rs35 billion.
The Awami National Party (ANP) had power in the province when this area was set aside.
The Bachakhan Greater Educational Complex was to have four distinct buildings: Bachakhan Medical College, Abdul Wali institution, an agricultural institution, and an engineering university.
According to the reports, if the original owners are ready to purchase back the land, the government will sell it to them; if not, the land would be put up for auction.
For the purpose of marking and selling the aforementioned property, committees from each of the four educational institutions have been established.
The government’s plan to sell the property was confirmed by KP Education Secretary Kamran Afridi in an interview with Geo News, citing financial constraints.
He said that the sale of the land had been decided in accordance with the directives of the Supreme Court. He said that the landowners are entitled to more than Rs30 billion from the government.
The official went on to say that instructions have been given to mark the extra land that belongs to the four educational institutions.
He claimed that the Higher Education Commission (HEC) has retained the financing for the institutions even if the universities are unable to make the remaining payments.
