The administration of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has announced intentions to impose a road construction levy on automobiles registered outside of the province.
According to Muzzammil Aslam, Advisor on Finance to the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the new law, named the “Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Road User Charge Bill 2024,” is expected to be brought up for approval shortly.
A road user surcharge will be applied to cars registered in federal territories and other provinces in accordance with the bill’s terms. The aim is to provide income to finance road infrastructure initiatives in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Additionally, Muzzammil Aslam said that an announcement on the launch of online car registration in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will be made in the near future.
The financial counselor went on to say that the province is now working to alter the taxes on residential and commercial property. Anwar Khattak Khan, the Finance Advisor’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), emphasized that the road user tax bill primarily targets citizens of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa whose automobiles are registered outside the province. To ensure the new law functions well, discussions are still underway to determine the precise rates and regulations.
