Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa overseeing the arrangements for the peace jirga on Friday visited the location in Khyber district and gave the go-ahead for the administration to provide all necessary support to participants.
He had earlier said that the Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement’s (PTM) three-day jirga would be hosted by the province government, which would also see to it that all issues were settled amicably.
On Thursday, the province administration convened a multiparty great jirga in which the federal government agreed, in principle, to withdraw a ban on the PTM that had been imposed lately.
The Pashtoon Qaumi Jirga, which was to be organized by the KP government and attended by Chief Minister Gandapur, was to be held today.
The jirga decided that the “banned” PTM would be permitted to hold it.
After being informed by the appropriate authorities, the chief minister visited the location in the Jamrud region of the district to examine the security and other preparations for the jirga.
On this occasion, police officers, divisional and district-level officials, and representatives of the province government were in attendance.
After holding a jirga with PTM delegates earlier today, Chief Minister Gandapur informed reporters, “We will host this jirga and it will remain peaceful.”
Gandpur promised that he will address the issues brought up during the jirga and that “the people will be able to show their demands by way of jirga and resolutions.”
