Controversial playwright Khalil ur Rehman Qamar has again stirred the pot with his latest remarks, this time targeting renowned actress Saba Qamar.
Known for his contentious views and blunt comments, Qamar has declared he will not collaborate with Saba Qamar in any future projects.
During a recent podcast appearance, Qamar was asked if there was any actress he would refuse to cast in his dramas. He unequivocally named Saba Qamar, citing her choice of what he deems “immodest” clothing as incompatible with his values.
“There’s no denying Saba Qamar’s talent; she delivered an outstanding performance in one of my earlier dramas,” Qamar remarked. “However, her current wardrobe choices do not align with our cultural norms or my personal standards.”
While acknowledging that Saba’s fashion decisions are her own and expressing no personal objection to her preferences, the playwright stood firm on his right to select actors based on his criteria.
Khalil ur Rehman Qamar has previously sparked controversy with similar comments. He notably refused to work with Mahira Khan after their public falling out and described her clothing choices as inappropriate for his projects.
Additionally, Qamar has made derogatory remarks about other prominent figures in the industry. During a television show, he referred to former model Iffat Omar as a “bad woman,” leading to a public challenge from Omar to substantiate his claims.
Qamar’s history of provocative statements includes a notorious incident during a TV debate about the Aurat March, where he made offensive comments toward activist Marvi Sirmed. His behavior drew widespread criticism from various quarters of the entertainment industry.
Despite his controversies, Khalil ur Rehman Qamar expressed his desire to continue working with actors like Humayun Saeed and Adnan Siddiqui, who he believes meet his professional standards.
