Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) presented its proposed draft for constitutional amendment in a meeting of the National Assembly’s special committee.
PPP and JUI will discuss the joint draft at Zardari House.
A meeting of the National Assembly’s special committee, chaired by Khurshid Shah, concluded to consult on constitutional amendments.
The representatives from PTI, including Barrister Gohar, Ali Zafar and Umar Ayub, participated while Asad Qaiser joined via video link.
Other political figures, such as Farooq Sattar, Amin ul Haq, Raja Pervez Ashraf, Naveed Qamar, Sherry Rehman, Ijaz ul Haq, Azam Nazeer Tarar, and Irfan Siddiqui, were also present.
JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari did not attend the committee meeting.
To reach consensus, a subcommittee has been formed to review the drafts related to constitutional amendments, which will report back to the special committee. Anyone can participate in the subcommittee meetings, with the next special committee session expected on October 17.
Commenting on this, Kamran Murtaza stated that the only difference between the drafts of the PPP and their party is regarding the constitutional court and commission, and he hopes both parties will soon agree on a joint draft.
PPP Senator Sherry Rehman mentioned their efforts to create harmony, noting that the committee meeting is in-camera. She emphasized that the constitutional amendment is not an attack on the court, as Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah also prioritized the constitutional court.
Before the meeting, Khurshid Shah told the media that every party has the right to choose its dialogue partners. He added that JUI has not yet expressed any reservations about the constitutional amendment draft, and they will address it when they do.
Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar stated that negotiations resolve issues, and discussions within the constitutional framework have been ongoing for a month.
The previous day, the special committee meeting ended without results, maintaining a deadlock among political parties, with the government having submitted its draft.
