The federal government on Friday summoned sessions of both houses of Parliament.
The political analysts suggested that significant legislation might be passed tomorrow (Saturday). The government appears to be in a legislative mood, which is why many bills are being presented in the current sessions of the National Assembly and the Senate, the most important of which is the bill to increase the number of judges in the higher judiciary.
The federal capital, Islamabad, and federal institutions usually have a holiday on Saturdays, but this time sessions of the National Assembly and the Senate have also been scheduled for Saturday. Political experts say that the purpose of calling the session on Saturday is to pass some important laws, while the Law Minister has stated that the government is not introducing any constitutional amendments tomorrow.
In view of the important legislation, the Senate Secretariat has issued a notification for the session, directing that the Senate offices be opened at 11 AM tomorrow. Opposition leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman has clearly stated that he is against any form of extension in the legislative process.
On the other hand, the government coalition lacks the two-thirds majority required for important constitutional amendments; however, if the government wishes to pass any legislation, it remains to be seen how it will manage to gather the necessary support.
