The ISPR has stated that an inquiry team comprising army and police officers will be formed to determine the facts and fix responsibility for the unfortunate incident happened in Bahawalnagar.
The military’s media wing stated this on Friday, a day after the official statement by the Punjab Police on X regarding the same incident.
The Punjab Police has termed the incident fake propaganda and exaggeration of minor issue.
“The Bahawalnagar matter has been taken out of context and exaggerated,” the Punjab Police stated on X.
Some video of torture on police officials allegedly by the army men went viral on social media on Wednesday, inviting criticism and uproar on across Pakistan. A video shows a police cop are sitting on the ground with bloody nose and some other clips could also be seen where police cops are complaining against the attitude of army officials. Politicians have also expressed views on it.
Many people posted their views on social media about the incident where some are criticising the police while others declare the army men’s action as unjustified. Videos and facts, however, are yet to be confirmed by the independent authorities.
Meanwhile, the matter was later resolved after a meeting among the top officers of the Pakistan Army and Punjab Police.
The ISPR has stated that “an unfortunate incident occurred in Bahawalnagar recently, which was promptly addressed and resolved through collaborative efforts of military and police authorities.”
It added that “despite the resolution, certain factions with vested motives started fanning vitriolic propaganda on social media to create divisions between state institutions and government departments.”
The ISPR further said that “to ensure a fair and deliberate inquiry, and to determine responsibility for violation of laws and misuse of authority, a joint inquiry comprising security and police officials will be conducted for ascertaining the facts and apportioning responsibility.”
