Jay Shah, Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC) extended gratitude to the hosts but did not mention Pakistan’s name as a host in his social media post.
Jay Shah wrote on X “On behalf of ICC, I would like to thank teams, tournament hosts, broadcast licenses, our sponsors, ICC staff, suppliers, and of course incredible fans all across the globe”
Fans criticized Jay Shah for not mentioning Pakistan’s name as a host, and his biased behavior toward hosts in contrast to various previous ICC tournaments.
Interestingly, Mr. Shah even did not publicly appreciate Pakistan just for once, neither at the closing ceremony nor on social media pages for their role in organizing the successful event.
The Champions Trophy 2025 was the first assignment of Mr. Jay Shah as an ICC chairman.
Pakistan hosted the mega event after 29 years with a lot of hurdles, as the BCCI demanded a hybrid model for the mega event.
Indian Cricket team played all their matches in Dubai, while Pakistan hosted nine matches including the semi-final at three different venues.
The Final was played between India and New Zealand at International Dubai Stadium on 9, March that concluded with India’s victory
However, Pakistan was deprived of many hosting rights.
ICC faced a lot of criticism for not inviting a host representative for the trophy distribution ceremony of the mega-event.
Later on, ICC clarified that the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was invited to the closing ceremony but he could not participate due to personal reasons.
Furthermore, the ICC clarified that only the chairman of countries can participate in the closing ceremony of any ICC event, according to ICC rules.
ICC always looked biased towards Pakistan’s hosting rights and tried to isolate Pakistan in the whole event.
