TV host Javeria Saud has defended former captain Sarfraz Ahmed over the latter’s spoken English language barrier.
Ms. Saud is hosting a Ramzan show where she also received online calls.
As per the details, a caller made a phone call during the show, the topic was cricket. The caller then suddenly started criticizing Sarfraz’s weakness in spoken English. Sarfraz was attending as a guest.
It was an indigestible stance that made Sarfraz Ahmed uncomfortable.
The live caller asked Sarfraz Ahmed about his poor English during match interviews.
He spoke about Pakistani cricketers’ poor English-speaking skills. He pointed out that “the cricketers got flustered when they have to speak in English and does find it more difficult than match.”
While Sarfraz Ahmed laughed and avoided responding, Javeria interrupted.
Considering the question unethical, she praised Sarfraz Ahmed. “English is not our native language. Speaking any second language perfectly is not a sign of superiority and excellence”.
Firstly, she added, we should learn to speak the Urdu language correctly as majority among us cannot.
Funs applauded Javeria for her quick response. They also supported Sarfraz Ahmed for his calmness.
