Former Pakistani coach and Australian fast bowler Jason Gillespie has alleged that Aqib Javed, the current interim head coach of Pakistan cricket team, undermined him and former white ball coach Gary Kirsten during their tenure.
While writing on a social media post, Gillespie called him a “clown”.
He accused that Aqib was working behind the scenes to the spot for himself.
Gillespie stepped down as Pakistan’s red ball coach three months ago.
Both Kirsten and Jason Gillespie were appointed Pakistan’s white and red ball coach respectively in 2024.
However, initially in October 2024, Kirsten resigned from the job. But later Gillespie also stepped from coaching appointment.
Aqib Javed who was Chief selector during their tenure was given the responsibility of heading the coaching as interim.
However, Pakistan faced humiliating defeats in Champions Trophy tournament under his leadership.
The defending Champions failed to qualify for next round and exited in group stage.
However, Aqib attributed the loss to frequent management changes within the cricket board.
Responding on the statement, Gillespie wrote: “Aqib was clearly undermining Gary and me behind the scenes, campaigning to be the coach in all formats. He is a clown.”
