Jamaat-e-Islami has rejected the Punjab Defamation Bill 2024 as draconian law, expressing solidarity media and committing support against it.
“Formed on the basis of rigged election, the government in fact lacks any legitimacy. But it goes two steps ahead and is shamelessly approving anti-people laws aiming at curbing the freedom of speech,” JI Emir Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman expressed these views while holding a media talk along with the delegation of Join Action Committee (JAC).
The JAC is a coalition representing Pakistan Broadcasters Association (PBA), All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS), Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE), Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ), Association of Electronic Media Editors and News Directors (AEMEND) and Lahore Press Club (LPC).
The JAC delegation visited Mansoorah and met JI Emir, seeking party’s support against the law.
Rehman said the Punjab government must sit with the journalists and repeal the act adopted by the provincial assembly two days ago. He said the rulers could not supress the media freedom with the use of force.
The JAC thanked the JI for support and said it would resist the law and go to the court if the government refused to take back the black law.
