Three journalists were killed in Israeli airstrikes on Friday. Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA) has reported the death of three journalists following an Israeli air raid on Hasbaya, a region near the Lebanese-Syrian border.
The airstrike reportedly occurred around 3:30 a.m. local time (0030 GMT) in eastern Lebanon.
The journalists were covering recent tensions along the border when the airstrike hit.
Meanwhile, efforts to negotiate a ceasefire in Gaza have gained renewed momentum.
On Thursday, Israel announced that Mossad’s spy chief would participate in ceasefire talks, while Hamas indicated its willingness to halt hostilities if a truce is agreed upon.
In Cairo, a senior Hamas official disclosed that representatives from Hamas leadership met with Egyptian officials to discuss potential ceasefire arrangements.
“Hamas has expressed readiness to stop the fighting, but Israel must commit to a ceasefire, withdraw from Gaza, allow the return of displaced people, agree to a prisoner exchange deal, and permit humanitarian aid into Gaza,” the official stated.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed support for Egypt’s involvement in securing a deal to release hostages held by militants in Gaza.
Following these Cairo meetings, Netanyahu directed the head of Mossad to visit Qatar on Sunday to advance negotiations further.
