The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) released a drone footage alleging the last moments of Yahya Sinwar, a senior Hamas leader, in a bombed-out building in Gaza.
The video represents Sinwar injured, with a heavily bandaged arm. The Hamas leader was sitting alone on a chair and debris around him. Sinwar threw a stick as a drone approached.
According to IDF spokesperson Daniel Hagari, this footage was recorded right before the Israeli forces targeted the building. The attack resulted in the death of the Hamas leader.
Hagari stated that “During the operation, Sinwar was identified as a combatant wearing military gear, including a bulletproof vest and grenades”.
While addressing a press conference, Hagari described how Israeli troops thoroughly conducted searches in the Tal El Sultan area of southern Gaza. According to the forces, high-ranking Hamas leaders were located in Southern Gaza.
He noted that during a clash with militants, Sinwar fled into the nearby building. Sinwar’s body images circulated on social media platforms. Sinwar sustained a severe head injury.
IDF initiated efforts to locate Sinwar following the October 7, 2023 attack on Israel. According to the Israeli media, Sinwar stopped using electronic communication methods to evade Israeli intelligence.
Sinwar’s death was confirmed through forensic analysis, dental records, and DNA testing. Hamas hasn’t made any official statement yet.
