The iconic Monal restaurant in Islamabad, situated within the Margalla Hills National Park, has declared via a social media announcement that it will cease operations on September 11, complying with a Supreme Court mandate.
“We must bid farewell. In accordance with the esteemed Supreme Court’s directive, our final day of service will be 11/09/2024. To our cherished patrons, we express our heartfelt gratitude for your support and for allowing us to serve you with excellence, earning your trust, admiration, and a special place in your hearts,” the statement conveyed.
Reflecting on its contentious history, the post mentioned, “Since 2006, the Monal family has had the honor of serving and promoting a positive image of Pakistan and its wonderful people.”
“This journey has been filled with triumphs and heartfelt moments for our team, but now we must say goodbye. Here’s to a challenging farewell,” the message concluded.
The Supreme Court had previously mandated a halt to all commercial activities within the National Park regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa, along with a three-judge bench, reviewed an appeal against the Islamabad High Court’s January 11, 2022 decision, which involved sealing and repossessing Monal.
Ultimately, the Supreme Court dismissed the appeal, supporting the Islamabad High Court’s directive for the Capital Development Authority and the Islamabad Wildlife Management Board to seal Monal, ensuring the protection of endangered wildlife in the area.
