Pro-Iran supporters and armed groups stormed at Saudi TV channel MBC in Baghdad early Saturday.
The incident occurred when MBC aired a controversial report, referring to Tehran-backed militant groups as “terrorists”. The report sparked anger among the pro-Iranian camps in Iran.
As reported by the security source, 400 to 500 protesters attacked the MBC building, damaged electronic equipment, and computers, and set the office on fire.
Police and rescue officials extinguished the fire and dispersed the crowd later. The security forces surrounded the building to prevent further incidents.
The unrest erupted after clips from an MBC program circulated on Iraqi social media. The broadcast discussed terrorism in the region and mentioned figures associated with groups from the Iran-backed Axis of Resistance.
Former Hezbollah and Hamas named them in the report.
Pro-Iran channels such as Sabreen News posted videos of the protesters carrying the flags of various armed groups in Baghdad.
