Iran’s ambassador to Lebanon, Mojtaba Amani, was among those injured on Tuesday when a series of pager explosions occurred across Lebanon, killing at least three people and wounding over 1,000 others, including Hezbollah fighters and medical personnel.
Amani, who suffered minor injuries, is currently under observation at a hospital in Beirut, according to Iran’s Fars news agency.
The explosions, which involved communication pagers, also claimed the lives of two Hezbollah fighters and a young girl, as confirmed by Hezbollah in a statement.
The group has called the incident the most severe security breach they have experienced in nearly a year of conflict with Israel.
The deaths and injuries have sparked widespread panic, especially in Hezbollah-dominated areas of Beirut and southern Lebanon, where ambulances were seen rushing through the streets.
The devices that exploded were reportedly new models introduced by Hezbollah in recent months, according to security sources.
Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the detonations, with heightened concerns over the potential link to ongoing hostilities in the region.
