Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has visited Allama Iqbal mausoleum, paying glowing tribute to the literary service of the national poet of Pakistan whose large part of poetry is in Persian language — the national language of Iran. He laid floral wreath at the Mizare Iqbal.
Ebrahim Raisi earlier arrived in Lahore, the capital of Punjab province, and received by Punjab Governor and Chief Minister at Allama Iqbal International Airport.
The Iranian President has also visited Minar-e-Pakistan, the Shahi Mosque, and the Lahore Fort.
The Punjab Chief Minister will also host a lunch in honor of the visiting President at the Punjab Governor’s House.
Mr Raisi is scheduled to visit Karachi after meeting with Punjab Governor Balighur Rehman. He is also scheduled to visit Mazar-e-Quaid in Karachi and meet the Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah.
Upon the arrival of the visiting president, both the governments of Punjab and Sindh have already announced a local holiday.
Meanwhile, the honorable guest right after landing at Lahore went to the shrine of the poet of the East -Allama Muhammad. Senior Punjab Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, provincial ministers Minister Azma Bokhari, Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman, Khawaja Salman Rafique, Chaudhry Shafey Hussain, Bilal Yasin and Chief Secretary Punjab and Inspector General of Punjab Police were also present while the visiting president was welcomed. A smart contingent of Punjab Rangers presented a guard of honor to President Raisi.
Mr. Raisi, the Iranian president, is set to receive an honorary doctorate degree from the University of Karachi. During his visit to the federal capital, the Iranian President met with Pakistan’s military chief, Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, and President Asif Ali Zardari to discuss regional stability, border security, and ways to increase bilateral trade volume by 10 billion US Dollars in the next five years.
The two countries have signed eight agreements and Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) to promote cooperation in various fields. The visit of the Iranian President also holds significant importance in terms of mending relationships between both Iran and Pakistan, which earlier saw a setback over cross-border missile strikes by both countries.
