PTI MNA Iqbal Afridi found himself at the center of a controversy after making remarks about a female K-Electric official’s attire during a parliamentary committee session.
His comments, made during the National Assembly Standing Committee on Energy meeting chaired by MNA Muhammad Idris, drew widespread criticism.
Afridi questioned the appropriateness of the woman’s clothing, suggesting that a dress code should be enforced for women attending such meetings.
Iqbal Afridi PTI remarks were met with immediate backlash, with the committee chairperson later issuing an apology.
Prominent political figures, including PPP Vice President Senator Sherry Rehman, condemned Afridi’s statement. Rehman highlighted the official’s qualifications, emphasizing that her competence should be respected rather than her attire scrutinized.
She called out the “gender-biased mentality” behind Afridi’s objection, stating that such attitudes reflect a desire to control women under the guise of regulating their clothing.
Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Attaullah Tarar, also denounced Afridi’s comments, describing them as harassment.
He urged PTI to take disciplinary action against Afridi, arguing that the party’s leadership should not tolerate such behavior.
Tarar further criticized PTI, labeling it as a movement that perpetuates injustice toward women, and called for Afridi’s suspension from the party.
