Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Secretary General Omar Ayub said on Saturday that the armed forces and intelligence services are state workers.
The opposition leader of the National Assembly said to the media in Lahore, “Politicians are also bound to do their politics within the constitutional parameters,” outlining his perspective.
PTI has been in difficulties since demonstrations began on May 9, 2023, the day after PTI founder Imran Khan was arrested. Mobs have damaged state infrastructure, including the Corps Commander House in Lahore.
Khan, who has been imprisoned for over a year, recently said that he was willing to engage in dialogue—but only within the parameters set down by the Constitution—and that he would offer an apology if it became out that PTI employees were the cause of the May 9 riots.
Khan questioned, “Am I insane to ask our people to attack the army?” He further stated that PTI workers were wrongly labeled “terrorists” for organizing nonviolent rallies and that they had nothing to do with the rioting on May 9.
Ayub stated that the PTI founder will file a lawsuit to obtain CCTV video of the May 9 protests during his media appearance today.
He indicated that no agreement had been reached with anyone. He said that Khan had emphasized that the Pakistan Peoples Party and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz were attempting to sow divisions between the civilian population and the armed forces.
Going on, he asserted that since this was a new election year, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) need to be autonomous.
Ayub’s aforementioned assertion corroborated the remarks made by the founder of his party, who stated that the PML-N-led government currently in power had just two months to live.
