Dr. S. Jaishankar, the minister of external affairs for India, is scheduled to go to Pakistan in order to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) “Heads of Government” (HoG) conference in Islamabad on October 15–16.
During its weekly press briefing on Friday, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced the news.
The regional bloc consisting of China, India, Russia, Pakistan, and Central Asian countries will convene in person in Pakistan, which is currently hosting the SCO Council of Heads of Government’s rotating presidency.
The visit by Jaishankar follows after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi received an invitation from Pakistan for the ceremony earlier in August.
Despite top ministers from India have recently represented the country, leaders of state or government usually attend the SCO summit.
Jaishankar took part in the Bishkek conference in 2022.
President Mohamed Muizzu of the Maldives is scheduled to visit India from October 7 to 10th. The first formal bilateral visit by President Muizzu would make stops in Bengaluru and Mumbai, the MEA representative, Randhir Jaiswal, revealed.
The leaders of state and government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) are to convene in Islamabad in the middle of October. Pakistan officially invited Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend the summit conference on August 26.
Pakistan has not welcomed the Indian leader for the last eight years.
The last time Modi received an invitation was at the 2016 summit of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC).
