Indian spinner R Ashwin said that the IPL has become so popular that sometimes cricket itself is neglected.
He claimed that athletes occasionally find it challenging to balance practice with photo shoots for advertisements.
“As a new player entering the IPL, my main goal was to pick up skills from the big names; I had no idea how the IPL would change in ten years. He stated on the Club Prairie Fire podcast, “Having played in the IPL for so many seasons, I can say that the IPL is huge.”
“Sport takes a backseat (during IPL), and sometimes I wonder if IPL is indeed cricket. It’s enormous. We do wind up rehearsing on ad sets and shooting! Prominent player for the Rajasthan Royals, Ashwin stated, “That’s where the IPL has gotten to.”
Since making his IPL debut in 2009, off-spinner R Ashwin has represented five different teams. The Rajasthan Royals (RR), with whom he has been playing since 2022, is his most recent team.
Ashwin is one of the top five wicket-takers in IPL history, having taken 171 wickets prior to the 2024 season.
