The Modi administration is under pressure from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to provide permission for the cricket team to travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy competition, which is scheduled for the following year.
Rajeev Shukla, the vice president of the BCCI, stated on Monday that the Indian national team will only travel Pakistan with permission from the government.
Shukla told ANI that the Indian cricket governing body will abide by any decisions made by the government regarding the team’s visit.
“We shall follow the instructions of the Indian government on the Champion Trophy. We only dispatch our personnel when authorized by the Indian government. Thus, we shall proceed in accordance with the Indian government’s decision,” Shukla declared.
Ahead of the Champions Trophy, which will be held in the nation in February of next year, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is putting the finishing touches on security arrangements for the Indian cricket team.
Three locations—Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi—have already been proposed by the PCB to the International Cricket Council (ICC) for the first draft schedule. The governing body will now solicit input from the participating countries on this proposal.
The precise dates of the eight-team competition have not yet been announced, but it is expected to last for more than two weeks.
