India: Groom, under alcohol influence, in state of Uttar Pradesh laid wedding garland on friend of the bride rather than on the bride.
The affair happened in Barkheda village, Bareilly, where, after the inebriate groom set the garland on the friend of the bride instead of the bride, the ceremony was called off.
Officially ending the wedding, 21 year old bride Radha Devi slapped the groom and stormed away enraged by this conduct.
Still, this was not the only big event Introduction verton Saturday, in India.
The havoc started with the 26 year old bride Ravinder Kumar showing up delayed at the wedding site with his entourage.
The groom’s family also asked more dowry upon arrival, says an FIR registered by the bride’s family.
The father of the bride said he had already contributed 250,000 rupees in pre-wedding ceremonies and an extra 200,000 rupees on the morning of the wedding.
Still, this still did not appease the groom’s side.
Ravinder Kumar also supposedly desired to wed a woman of his own choosing.
This in turn made him arrive at the wedding drunk and act inappropriately with the bride’s family.
The groom was downing alcohol with friends until the garland exchange ceremony, according the FIR.
When the time came, he put the garland on the bride’s friend instead of the bride, quite probably on purpose or by accident.
Furious, Radha Devi gave the groom two stinging blows and stormed from the wedding.
Afterward, a heated exchange between the two families degenerated into a violent confrontation during which chairs were hurled at each other.
The groom and his buddies were arrested by the police, who charged them with disturbing public peace and offending the bride’s family.
