In the Asian Champions Trophy final on Tuesday, September 17, the Indian men’s hockey team, captained by skipper Harmanpreet Singh, defeated the host nation, China, 1-0 to win a record-tying fifth title.
India has already defeated China 3-0 in the group round before to today’s final.
Returning to the IND vs. CHN Asian Champions Trophy final, at the end of the second quarter, the score remained 0-0 as neither team was able to reach the back of the net.
Both sides were deadlocked in a scoreless draw at the break, which set the stage for an exciting second half.
The defense gained control as the Indian attackers were unable to make the breakthrough. With help from Harmanpreet Singh, Jugraj Singh broke the contest with a crucial field goal.
China made a strong effort to tie the score, including substituting a goalie for another player, but India was able to hold onto their advantage and win the game 1-0.
Having winning in Chennai the previous year, the Men in Blue overcame a tenacious Chinese squad to capture back-to-back Asian Champions Trophy title.
